Christmas Market Eguisheim Locations

The Eguisheim Christmas Market has two locations, on the squares Place du Marché aux Saules and Place Monseigneur Stumpf.

Both Christmas markets are small, with stalls selling a wide variety of handicrafts: wax figurines with Christmas motifs, sweets, musical instruments, wooden objects, glass Christmas balls, Christmas lamps, cheese, and cured meats.

You will also have the opportunity to taste specialties from Alsace, hearty food like tarte flambée, raclette, or tartiflette, and drink hot chocolate or mulled wine to warm up.

Eghisheim Christmas Market 2025 – Things to Do

For the Christmas Market, Eguisheim always plans many festive events, such as concerts, themed treasure hunts, and storytellers. Themed guided visits are also available. Don’t hesitate to ask for the complete program at Eguisheim’s Tourism Office, located at 22 Grand’ Rue.

Eguisheim’s Tourism Office: 22 Grand’ Rue, Eguisheim. Opening hours: Monday through Friday, from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and from 2.00 p.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 12:30 pm and from 2.00 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Place du Château and the Old Town

Eguisheim is one of the most beautiful villages in Alsace and the Old Town is very charming.

Don’t miss Place du Château (Eguisheim’s central square), dominated by the sculpture of Pope Léon IX from the top of a beautiful Renaissance fountain. There’s no Christmas market in this square, but the retaining wall of the château displays an original advent calendar, and there’s also a nativity scene.

The square is surrounded by lovely half-timbered houses, the ruins of the Château Saint-Léon (where Pope Léon IX was born), and the Church of Saint-Pierre-et-Paul with its unique Vierge Ouvrante (14th century).

The Tourism Office offers free maps of the Old Town with the main sights pinpointed.

La Ronde des Crèches

One of the prettiest French medieval towns, Eguisheim has a unique layout, where the streets are arranged in concentric circles around the former Château Saint-Léon.

Let yourself be carried away by the magic of Christmas by following La Ronde des Crèches. This circuit of the remparts of Eguisheim is at this time of the year punctuated with small nativity scenes, illuminations, and beautiful Christmas decorations. All the nativity scenes are different and super cute!

Take a Break from the Cold in a Winstub

Alsace Traditional Food

If you need a break from the cold weather, look for a table in a warm and cozy winstub where conviviality reigns.

Winstubs (also called wistubs) are the local (and inexpensive) eateries in Alsace. They are perfect for trying typical dishes like choucroute, baeckeoffe, and more. Click here to learn what to eat in Alsace.

Wine Tasting in Eguisheim

Eguisheim is part of the famous Alsace Wine Route, and it is well known for its white wines made of Riesling, Gewürztraminer, and Pinot Gris. The Alsace Grand Cru Eighberg is made in Eguisheim.

The best places for wine tasting (in English and French) and shopping in Eguisheim are Domaine Emile Beyer (the most central), and Domaine Mann (right outside the Old Town). This is a busy period in town, so be sure to book your wine tasting experience online well in advance!

If you are based in Colmar, I recommend visiting the Museum of Alsatian Wines before your wine tasting in Eguisheim. This museum is a great introduction to the wines of Alsace, and the ticket comes with audio guide and a couple of tastings at the end of the visit.

Where to Stay in Eguisheim

The real reason I think you should stay in Eguisheim overnight is because of how magical it becomes once the sun starts to set and the day crowds are gone. Then, the locals relax, and this beautiful village will be yours until late in the morning of the next day!

Book accommodation well in advance if you want to stay in Eguisheim during Christmas. The map above shows the hotels and apartments available for your selected dates.

Eguisheim is one of the easiest day trips from Colmar, located 7 km southwest of Colmar. If you are visiting the Strasbourg Christmas Market instead, Eguisheim is 81 Km southwest of Strasbourg.

By car

The best Christmas markets in Alsace by car gives you more flexibility but finding a spot to park your car can be a nightmare, especially on weekends.

If you don’t have a car, you can rent one in Colmar or Strasbourg – Click here for my best tips for renting a car in France.

With a Guided Tour from Colmar or Strasbourg

This enchanting Christmas Market day tour from Colmar lasts 8 hours and visits the markets of Eguisheim, Kaysersberg, and Riquewihr, plus a winery in Ribeauvillé. You will have enough time for sightseeing, shopping, and wine tasting.

There is a similar Christmas Market day tour from Strasbourg that visits some Christmas markets, including Colmar and Eguisheim (on selected days). The choice of the Christmas markets will depend on the day of the tour.

By Bus (Recular or Christmas Shuttle Bus)

Christmas Shuttle Bus - Colmar

If you decide to combine the Christmas Market in Colmar with Eguisheim, there is a Christmas shuttle – Navette de Noël #3 with daily departures from Colmar. The bus starts from Colmar Gare SNCF and ends at Eguisheim Post Office. There are other bus stops in Colmar, but it usually gets full at the train station.

The ticket price is 8€ for the day during the week (Monday to Thursday) and 17€ for the day on Fridays and weekends. The bus is free for kids under 12 years.

Christmas Shuttle bus tickets are sold online and are usually sold out on the first day of release. For information, last year (2024) they were on sale on 13 November. Bus tickets don’t have a seat assigned so there will be a (long) line to board the bus and it will be first arrived first served.

From Monday to Thursday, there’s only one bus taking this route, and there are few buses a day. Try to arrive at the bus stop well in advance, as the seats on the bus are limited. In Eguisheim, I arrived at the bus stop 15 minutes before the bus departure, but the line was so long that I had to wait in the cold until the bus dropped the passengers in Colmar and came back for the next ones: that was hard!

On Fridays and weekends, there are more buses but also more people who want to travel. It will be key to arrive at the bus stop well in advance to secure a seat on the bus.

Eguisheim is a town in the middle of nowhere. Still, it is a top tourist attraction during Christmas in Alsace, and I found that the Christmas shuttle service was not adapted to the huge number of tourists who rely on public transportation.

An alternative to the Christmas shuttle (which I haven’t personally tested) is the regular Eguisheim Colmar bus R030, which departs from Colmar train station. There are eight buses a day from Colmar to Eguisheim.

So there you have it, a quick guide to the Eguisheim Christmas Market 2025 – dates, locations, things to do, and more to plan your Christmas trip in this beautiful corner of Alsace.
