Top Nice Ice Cream Parlors for a Sweet Treat
FreshIce
Recently opened in Port Lympia, this new ice cream parlor is ideal if you are exploring this area or on your way to the Nice beaches on the east. Connected to the FreshIcerie grocery store next door, you can also buy pancakes, waffles, and drinks.
When I visited, there were only nine flavors (melon, watermelon, 3 chocolates, stracciatella, raisin, etc.), so it was difficult to find something that I liked. FreshIce’s ice cream is creamy, refreshing, and bigger than most ice creams in Nice. You’ll pay 50 cents more than in the Old Town, but it is the only ice cream parlor in this area!
Address: 8 Quai des Docks, Nice
Azzurro
Right next to the Sainte-Réparate Cathedral, Azzurro offers a wide choice of flavors (I counted 45!), including some original or typical Provence. Everything is homemade, on-site, including their delicious cones. There are also sorbets, chocolates, and yogurts.
Azzurro is my favorite ice cream in Nice. Their cones and pots are bigger than the competition. However, it is not possible to pay by card.
Address: 1 Rue Sainte-Réparate, Nice
Casa del Gelato
This artisan ice cream parlor run by Italians offers a good choice of flavors and a pleasant terrace to eat on. It is also possible to order complete ice cream cups with whipped cream, coulis, fruit, etc. Usually, you pay €1 more for terrace service than for takeaway.
Casa del Gelato‘s ice creams are tasty and creamy but not very sweet. They have many fruity flavors, which are my favorites! Pistachio lovers will enjoy the real taste of their Italian pistachio cream (far from the usual chemical flavors).
Address: 37 Rue Masséna
Oui Jelato
Located on rue de la Préfecture and overlooking the Place du Palais de Justice, Oui Jelato also offers various flavors. But it stands out above all for its verrines, ice cream sandwiches (ice cream between two cookies), and other delicious creations, depending on the moment.
For more than ten years, this family business has been dedicated to the artisanal production of creamy and delicate ice creams, served with a spatula in the pure Italian tradition. The ice creams are homemade, colorant-free, and made with selected superior-quality raw materials.
Address: 5 Rue de la Préfecture
Fenocchio
Probably the most famous ice cream in Nice, Fenocchio is a real institution! This artisanal ice cream parlor has been established for decades in town and is best known for its wide choice of flavors.
Some flavors are very original and, above all, very local, such as rose, lavender, orange blossom, and rose ice cream. There are also some surprising flavors, such as tomato-basil, chard pie, or punch coconut!
I tried a “classic” orange + cassis ice cream, and although it was good, it was not very creamy.
Although most of the locals I asked do not consider it the best ice cream in Nice (they prefer Azzurro…), Fenocchio is definitely the favorite among tourists, and there are always long lines. As you can read above, there’s life beyond Fenocchio, and there are delicious ice creams everywhere in Nice, but go there at least once to try an original flavor.
Address: 6 Rue de la Poissonnerie, Nice
